Yarn Show and Contest 2010
The Wool Festival at Taos

Please Note: Some New Changes This Year

  • All Handspun Yarn entries MUST be mailed in BEFORE the Festival. All Judging will take place BEFORE the Wool Festival therefore all skein entries will need to be mailed in (see A. below).
  • No entries will be accepted at the Festival.
  • All entries must be picked up at the Festival, Sunday late afternoon.
  • New Youth Division this year for our up-and-coming Spinners!

See details below:

A committee, organized by Gayle Bone, the previous yarn show superintendent for 2 years, and including Robin Pascal, Linda DeBlois and Carol Grim, has worked hard to bring our Handspun Yarn show up to date. We are working towards a national judging criteria. Please read these guidelines thoroughly as there are many changes from last year.

Our skein judge for 2010:  Robin Pascal

I've been a knitter for more than 50 years, a dyer for more than 25 years, a weaver for 13 years, and a spinner for 12 years. I have a BFA in studio art/metalsmithing from the University of Houston. In 2006 I won a Taos medallion for best in show in spinning novelty yarn. In 2009, I attended a workshop in judging handspun yarn presented by the Tucson Weavers and Spinners Guild. I have since judged yarn at the Arizona Federation of Weavers and Spinners, Southwest Fiber Arts Festival, and Southwest Spinners Retreat, as well as continuing to teach handspinning yarn classes.

A. Deadlines:

Due to the large number of entries we are now requiring that all entries be mailed in so that judging may be done before the festival. Entries will be hung Saturday morning in the Yarn Show tent for viewing. No entries will be accepted at the festival. Please take note of this! It is a significant change in rules for 2010. Entries will be accepted with postmark beginning September 1st and with a postmark deadline of September 15, 2010. Entries that arrive before September 1st or are postmarked after September 15th will not be accepted.
